Classics to Calypso

This year, the Classics to Calpyso is on Saturday and Sunday, December 6th and 7th 2008 in Montreal.

President's Message

Welcome to the 15th annual Classics to Calypso concert. As usual this event brings together all the steelbands in the schools and communities, along with professional Pan players in a musical extravaganza. The setting is a presentation of various styles of music including classical, jazz, latin, pop, reggae, traditional christmas songs and calypso music. This year we will again provide a very enthusiastic and diverse Winter Festival, as it spreads and incorporates more Canadians of all races and ages into the art of Steelpan playing. Everyone is invited to share and participate in this unique experience. The event is presented at the Royal Vale Auditorium, an ideal concert hall for this type of Music.

I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of Salah’s Steelpan Academy to express thanks to the principals, teachers, parents, and students of the schools' steelbands, along with the leaders and their players from the various community groups. We also express our gratitude to the supporting staff of The Academy and affiliated sponsors who have all worked to make this event possible.

Please join me this year in giving a strong support of encouragement to our steelpan music students. Congratulations to them for their sincere effort.

We hope you enjoy this concert and we extend an invitation to our summer festival, Festival International de Steelpan de Montreal.
